Fit to Dance, Drills and Combos:
Taught by Anastasia - Session 1 - Wednesdays 6 to 7:15pm
This class will be filled with exercises and drills to wake up our bodies, mind and soul and get ready for dancing. With dance we will sweat and focus on getting out of our usual day to day body mechanical movement and into your dancing grove. Drills and combos will be used to strengthen your muscle awareness in our legs, hips, back and arms.
The class is open to any one over 16 yrs age and any level or type of dance experience, as it can be tailored to all levels. So yes, even "those who cannot dance" are welcome. Come on out and check out what belly dancing foundations and drills have to offer for you!

Cassie's Samba Revival Class:
Taught by Anastasia - Session 1 - Wednesdays 7:15 to 8:30pm
Oh how we miss our lovely and talented Cassie and her fun choreographies! She has graciously allowed me to teach her Tabla Solo, also known as her "Samba" choreography as it makes us shimmy and grove with fast samba moves. It will be a great refresher for those that already know it and a good time for new people to learn it. Come on to class for some fun and bead shaking and learn a choreography by Cassie.

Shimmy Boot Camp Class:
Taught by Anastasia - Session 2 - Wednesdays 6 to 7:15pm
You guessed it, this will have a bit of "booty" shaking in the the class. It is all about getting your shimmy and bringing it on no matter what your feet are doing. This class will have you hip dropping to any beat and bringing it all the way up to your shoulders...when you mean for the shimmy to be there.
This class will be for all levels as you work to your speed and take the challenge to do more when ready or just looking to go crazy.

What to Bring to Class:

This is an exercise type class so be prepared to move around. Warm up may require you to go to the floor so bring a yoga mat if you prefer. Wear comfortable, form fitting clothes, as it makes the instructor's job easier if they can see your posture as you are dancing. It is suggested to wear yoga type pants or capris with a tank top, crop top or close fitting t-shirt. Bare feet are recommended but if you require footwear it cannot be outside footwear (Dance Street has some footwear options). Belts of all types are welcome in all classes, but try to limit the glass beads please; they are hard on the bare feet. For tribal class it is preferred to not use coin/bell belts (other options are fringe, short skirts, scarves) .
Bring water and if you are in more than one class snacks might be a good idea to keep your energy up.

Where to get props and belts:

Zills:
Zills come in different sizes and weights which will give them different sounds. If you are new to zills then you will likely want to start with a smaller pair, around 2 1/6" diameter, with two holes for the elastic. If you are experienced and are going to perform then you will want a larger and heavier (thus louder) pair. Fat Chance Belly Dance and Suhaila Salimpour have impressive performance zills (Victoria and Anastasia have some you can check out).
You can purchase zills from the internet, Anastasia has one pair of Fat Chance Belly Dance ($70.00), Victoria has two pairs of student/small zills ($20) or you can contact our local belly dance supply lady, Barb Sharp at bellybasics@sasktel.net.
Veils and Skirts:
Veils and skirts will be used for the choreography in the middle eastern class. There will be some to borrow but if you wish to purchase your own, you can purchase them on line, make your own or check out some of the vendors on the links page. Barb Sharp is the local vendor. She will be having a sale in October.
Belts:
A variety of coin belts will be available at class for purchase. Price is from $18 to $25, depending on the style and amount of coins. Barb Sharp also has a variety of belts available, see her info on the links page and stay tuned for her annual sale in the fall.
